Welcome to the Boulder Homeschool Park Day!

NOTE! From April through October we meet every Tuesday at the park at the Boulder Public Library (in the playground area by the creek).

November through March, if the weather is sunny and 60 or above, we still meet at the library park; but if it's gloomy or below 60, we will either be skating at the YMCA at 95th and Arapahoe, or swimming at Paul Derda Rec Center in Broomfield.

Winter Schedule:

Odd Tuesdays: Swimming at Paul Derda Rec Center in Broomfield, 12:30 - 3:30

Even Tuesdays: Skating at the Lafayette YMCA, 95th and Arapahoe, 1:30 - 3:30

The Boulder Homeschool Park Day (a/k/a the Boulder Park Day) is a park day for homeschooling families. It is open to all homeschool families of all homeschooling styles, all faiths, and all ages. You do not have to live in Boulder to attend the Boulder Park Day!

The Boulder Park Day is all-inclusive, and fosters an atmosphere tolerance and sharing.

The Boulder Homeschool Park Day is a safe and positive environment for our community of homeschooled children. We have a simple set of guidelines by which everyone is expected to abide:

  • No violent play.
  • No weapons play - either with toy weapons, or using other items as if they are weapons.
  • No name calling.
  • No swearing.
  • No exclusionary play. It's ok for children to play in a group on their own, but it's not ok for children to intentionally make others feel excluded and unwelcome.
  • Aggressive behavior on the part of either children or adults will not be tolerated. Parents are expected to take responsiblity for the behavior of their children. Those who do not may be asked to leave.
  • One of the most awesome things about homeschooled children is their ability to work through and negotiate differences of opinion or disagreements. We encourage this manner of settling differences, and it is expected that parents will assist their children in resolving differences in this manner.
  • Boulder Park Day is a safe, gentle environment. We try to model the same behavior that we value and encourage in our children. This means using positive parenting, and modeling positive dispute resolution skills. Verbally abusing or striking a child, or threatening to do so, has no place at Boulder Park Day.
  • Please be careful when discussing grown-up topics with other parents to ensure that no "little ears" are around - it may be that you feel that your child is ready to hear about such topics as war, divorce, sex, etc. - but another parent may not wish their children to be exposed to such topics yet.
  • If you believe that you or your child may be ill and contagious, please don't bring the illness to park day. Some children are more susceptible to illness than others, and what may be a simple cold for you could mean a week in the hospital for a child who has asthma, or a compromised immune system.
  • The Boulder Park Day meets every Tuesday, rain or shine or snow. During the months of April through October, we meet every week at the park right next to the Boulder Public Library, by the swingset and slide. Someone is usually there by 12:00 noon, and people are usually there as late as 3:30 or 4:00 p.m.. During the months of November through March we meet at the park if it is sunny and at least 60 degrees out, otherwise we either meet for ice skating at the YMCA at 95th and Arapahoe, or for swimming at the Paul Derda Rec Center in Broomfield.*

In addition to the swingset, slide, and grassy area on which to play at the park, there is a creek that many children like to play by and in. If you want to let your child play by the creek, you may want to bring a change of clothes!

There are two excellent places for lunch right next to the park - they are V.G. Burgers, which features an entirely vegetarian fast food menu, and Mustard's Last Stand, which is a hot dog and hamburger stand which also has many vegetarian options - including a vegetarian reuben! Mustard's will even loan you a picnic blanket. There are also picnic tables at the park.

The park lays between the Boulder Public Library and Broadway St., and is between Arapahoe and Canyon. The library is at 1000 Canyon Blvd.. There is plenty of parking at the library.

*Why is a Boulder park day going to Broomfield to swim? Because the Paul Derda rec center has the most awesome facilities anywhere along the front range, including allowing our kids to continue the tubing fun that they get during the summer on the creek. Seriously. Check out the picture here. That slide you see is a tube slide (tubes provided), and there is a second non-tube slide to the right.
